MIT.nano asked on Labnetwork about laser micromachining and received many great suggestions on vendors and services, listed below.
- Translume: "They made a 1-3 um holes through fused silica wafers for me."
- Oxford Laser Systems: "I used to own a system from Oxford Laser systems. It was a great system. The US office is based in the Boston Area. They do customer work. Their systems will mill the materials you mention very well. You just need to be careful with the glass, it tends to explode if you’re not careful with the power and rep rate." Contact: oxford.inc@oxfordlasers.com.
- AdValue Tech: "We have gotten laser hole drilling in Pyrex from AdValue Tech. They also machine many other substrates."
- IPG
- Photomachining Inc. "Pay is by the hour and they carry nano/pico/fempto lasers"
- DTU Nanolab, National Center for Nanofabrication and Characterization: "We have these capabilities but I do not know how easy it is to ship the stuff forth and back across the big pond. If this is an option for you we can provide you with our detailed capabilities; we drilling holes in Si, SiO2 and Pyrex on a regular bases. Contact Jörg Hübner at jhub@dtu.dk"
- Evolve Diamonds: "I may be able to help (and I'm in MA). Precise cuts in transparent ceramic materials are my specialty! By and large, I've found that a laser with sufficient peak power to cut diamond is capable of cutting most anything. These substrate thicknesses should pose no challenge. We'll just have to see if I can hit the feature sizes they're looking for.” Contact Travis Wade, Evolve Diamonds, (978) 434-2283
- GaTech IEN: “Contact micro-machining facility manager, Richard Shafer (richard.shafer@gatech.edu), complete statement of work (SOW) template and let them know more details about your needs. This will help us to get an essential preliminary information prior to setting up a virtual meeting. Recently, Richard gave a fantastic presentation on our micro-machining capability and you may be able to access the same to know more about our micro-machining capability at this link. Looking forward to supporting you.”
- 4D Labs: "It always depends on the substrate material and holes size needed, but we do have laser drilling capabilities here in 4D LABS, with an IPG system. We have an IR laser and a deep-UV laser."
